Self Delusion

by Susan K. Montague

I’m 64.
I don’t recognize myself any more;
I’m fit and slim.
I’ve been to the gym.
Looking young is a great feeling;
a smaller size is so appealing.
But the feeling is fleeting.
It’s so defeating.
When instead of asking for my ID,
the bartender says, “Do you belong to AARP?”
