Joe Szalinski is a writer/performer from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. In addition to writing, he also acts, makes music, and performs spoken-word and comedy (stand-up, improv, sketch). Joe also regularly posts cartoons and videos to his Instagram page @poetry_hugger
Acting credits: I did student theater in college. Was in a few shorter plays, but had significant roles as Paul in Remembrance and as Steve in The Dream of the Burning Boy. In 2016, SRU's English Department took a trip to Stratford, Ontario for the Shakespeare festival. My classmates and I got to be background dancers at the end of As You Like It. I've also wrote a couple short plays that have been produced, and I even got a chance to direct one my senior year.
For film, I grew up making short films and taking video production classes. But as far as being an actor in others' projects, I have been an extra on Mindhunter (season 1), and I just finished shooting scenes for the upcoming film The Pale Blue Eye. I've been in a Happy Clouds music video, "Renaissance Sinner Party," and a student film called "Lux." I've been an extra on short films like "Cobblestoned," "Half Bath," and an untitled assassin project. I've also been in two commercials, one for a local lawyer, and another for a Pittsburgh-based tech company called Seegrid.
Publications: In summer 2021, I released my debut poetry chapbook, Nondescript Other Such. Lit mags my work has appeared in are Defenestration, The Short Humour, The Odyssey Magazine, The Howling Press, Sampsonia Way Magazine, Verbose Magazine, Riverbed Review, minichapbooks, Cajun Mutt Press, Sans Press, Poetry Soup, Spillover Magazine, Dollar Store Magazine, and Rabble Review.
