Where oh where has my beloved gone
He’s all but disappeared
I knew we would change as we aged
But goodness its worse than I feared.
His long wavy hair got thinner
Then the blond faded to white
I don’t know how it happened
It seemed to occur overnight.
Around the same time I noticed
Hair grew in the strangest place
On him it appeared in his nose and his ears
On me it emerged on my face.
They said things would get better
When we reached the golden years
But looking across at my partner
That theory disappears.
His mouth is hanging open
The pearly teeth all missing
Placed in a jar in the bathroom
Mouth no longer inviting kissing
Our bodies may have changed dramatically
But we’ll never be over the hill
We’re just too tired to climb it
But we love each other still.
Love is what keeps us young at heart, and, it keeps us from, aging too fast on the, inside.
